i am someone

We all know someone who deals cancer in one way or another. Whether that someone is a husband, a wife, a friend, a child, a sibling, a parent, a neighbor, a classmate, a co-worker, it seems there is always a someone.

In 2011, about six hundred thousand Americans, and more than seven million humans around the world, will die of cancer. In the United States, one in three women and one in two men will develop cancer during their lifetime. A quarter of all American deaths and about 15 percent of all deaths worldwide will be attributed to cancer. In some nations, cancer will surpass heart disease to become the most common cause of death.

Also in 2011, once again, I will be among 5000 Pan Mass Challenge cyclists riding across Massachusetts to raise money for life-saving cancer research and treatment. All the money raised goes to provide the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s doctors and researchers the necessary resources needed to continue their mission of prevention, detection and treatment of all cancers.

It seems somewhat selfish to keep asking everyone to help my cause. Though, from the statistics it is not just my cause.

Please help me help someone.
